Kay Oh Chay is a phenom. She's got a voice that can turn sand to glass, fill that glass with cool water, and melt the whole thing into magmetic cauldron of bubbling soul. Equally at home on piano, organ, and especially her prized KORG SV-1 keyboard, Kay elevates her songs with incredible musical chops. Often accompanied by her husband Michael "Sugar" Oh Chay on drums and percussion, there has never been a musical bridge too far for the dynamic duo. Formerly known as The Oh Chays, the pair is currently hard at work on a new album to be released under the name Kay Oh Chay.
A little about The Oh Chays:
The always surprising, risk-taking, gear-shifting, soul-belting (and, now award-winning!) Oh Chays are beholden to no single genre. Currently writing and recording their second album, The Oh Chays are a husband and wife duo raised on trad jazz, rockabilly, gospel, and the Detroit radio of the 70's and 80's. Consistently wowing audiences with their versatile musicianship, songwriting, and razor-sharp wit, The Oh Chays are not to be missed live!
The Oh Chays have racked up an impressive list of accomplishments including winning the 2017 Canada South Songwriting Competition with their song The Glass, competing in The 31st International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee, being regional finalists twice in CBC’s Searchlight Song Competition, as well as reaching the finals of the Toronto Blues Society's 2014 Talent Search. The Oh Chays have shared the stage with luminaries such as HOZIER, JANE SIBERRY, OH SUSANNA, WENDELL FERGUSON, PHILIP SAYCE, THE KIRBY SEWELL BAND, CHUCK JACKSON, THE MARIGOLDS, ARIANA GILLIS, and KEN YATES. Kelly's vocals, which range from a country-gospel croon to a soulful growl and everywhere in between feature prominently on their debut album, Big Old World, while Michael's rock-solid support on percussion, vocals and guitar add extra dimensions of sonic tastiness to Kelly's considerable piano and organ chops!
